Bal Folk Events in Guelph

"Bal Folk" is Western European style folk dancing, not performances, but participatory social dance parties featuring  fun group and partner dances. Find here the Bal Folk music and dance events we are organizing in Guelph.

Bal Folk Music and Dance Workshops Jan-Mar 2026

Music Workshop 5:30-6:30 - Come learn repertoire for Bal Folk dances! Fun tunes taught by ear, ideal for melody based instruments (Fiddle, accordion, mandolin, flute, etc.). You are welcome to stay for the dance workshop and either learn the dances or play the tunes you just learned for the dancers.

Dance Workshop 6:30-7:30 - Come learn traditional dances and dances common at Bal Folk events. Non-gendered dance roles, no partner or experience necessary. Each session is a focus on a different dance, and we'll go in depth into the footwork, connection, and variations for each.

Jan 15 - Bourrée in 2, Rondeau
Jan 29 - Polka, Waltz, Scottish, Mazurka
Feb 5 - Breton tunes and dances
Feb 26 - Bourrée in 3 
Mar 5 - Balfolk Mixers (Chapeloise, Cercassien)


Location: Guelph Arts Council / "Sally Wismer Gallery" in the Quebec St. Mall Downwtown
Price: PWYC suggested minimum $10. Drop-in or pay in advance (Ticket links coming soon!)

John has been hosting regular Traditional New Orleans style jazz concerts featuring West End Riverboat Band and guests. Fun relaxed atmosphere with celebratory tunes some of which are 100+ years old
